Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists focus on evaluating, restoring and maintaining physical function and movement. To empower the patient, our physiotherapists work jointly with their clients and other health care professionals to help achieve and maintain optimal well-being.
Physiotherapy treatment may help:
Alleviate pain
Restore and increase movement and function
Prevent and treat sports injuries
Increase balance and coordination
Our therapists also counsel and educate clients on aspects of pre- and post-natal care, to speed individuals' return to everyday activities.
In addition to the treatment, our therapists may suggest, supervise and modify exercises to:
Strengthen clients' muscles and endurance
Improve cardiopulmonary fitness levels
Restore mobility to those with such neurological disorders as stroke, spinal cord injuries or Parkinson's disease
Chiropractic
Our chiropractors practice conservative chiropractic medical care. Their focus is on the neuro-musculoskeletal system - a hands-on approach is taken to restore proper function to the spine, extremities and associated muscular system.
The Diversified Chiropractic Technique encompasses a variety of treatments such as specific manual manipulation, trigger point therapy and soft tissue therapy. Active Release Therapy is a soft tissue system and movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.

Some of our registered massage therapists may also incorporate various energy balancing techniques with their clients. These complementary and alternative approaches to the healing arts fall under the scope of practice of many of our practitioners.
Athletic Therapy
Athletic Therapy takes an active patient approach to complete rehabilitation of all muscle, bone, or joint injuries. Athletic therapists practice various combinations of exercise therapy, therapeutic modalities, soft tissue mobilization, massage and supportive strapping procedures.
Our athletic therapists' extensive experience with athletes of all levels - including professional cowboys, hockey players and recreational athletes - often provides a quick, cost effective recovery from injuries, including:
Sprains
Strains
Overuse injuries
Chronic pain
Custom Orthotics
An orthotic is a device worn inside a shoe that is used to control the biomechanical movements of the foot and lower limb during movement. People who experience symptoms of foot, lower limb and lower back problems may benefit from custom-built orthotics.
Orthotics may be prescribed to correct or aid with reduction of load, motion control and alignment, immobilization and support, and to correct deformities.
Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

Varsity Athletic Therapy
Varsity Athletic therapy is open to current MRU Varsity athletes only.
Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.
Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.(ref: CATA website www.athletictherapy.org)
